Before the first gas-powered automobiles ever roamed the cities, people were already crafting new recipes and meals left and right. Over the years, more and more culinary achievements and discoveries are made, and as a result, they provide us with more ways to enjoy the food and drinks we consume. Besides enjoying what we have on our plates, however, it’s also essential to recognize how beneficial they are for our health and overall well-being. With that said, it comes as no surprise that, to this day, more and more healthy trends are brought to our attention. Well, that’s what this article is here for. Now, without further ado, let’s talk about some of today’s health-related trends, shall we?

Kimchi

Although they have been releasing numerous hit films, shows, and music over the years, it’s still quite impressive how Korea has recently garnered a skyrocketing degree of popularity from audiences around the world. Well, besides their celebrities developing a broader fan base, many aspects of the country’s culture have become a subject of interest for many – and this includes the foods they make.

Among their cuisines, however, it’s safe to say that kimchi is the most known out of all of them. Besides it being tasty, kimchi is also packed with health benefits. Often fermented for at least a few days, it is composed of various vegetables such as carrots, eggplant, and celery. Even so, it wouldn’t be the same without its main ingredient: Chinese cabbage, which on its own already has vitamins A and C, more than 34 amino acids, and ten different minerals. Plus, thanks to the fermentation process, kimchi takes credit for preventing various conditions, including certain types of cancer, the common cold, and can be good for the heart.

Kombucha Beer

At this point, it goes without saying that many of us enjoy spending some nights chilling with our friends, all while fancying ourselves with some beverages along the way. For some time, companies have spent significant amounts of investment money creating many of today’s go-to drinks. With that said, a new variant has recently been making quite a name for itself, and it reportedly claims to be a healthier alternative!

Like kimchi, kombucha beer is made by fermenting its ingredients, which is usually green or black tea, sugar, and yeast. It also has probiotics, meaning it contains strains of bacteria that can improve digestion. The downside, however, is that most of these friendly bacteria can’t survive in high alcohol volumes. Even so, not all is lost with this beverage. Thanks to its black or green tea and yeast, kombucha beer still has plenty of vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals that can do wonders to our body. With that said, at the end of the day, it’s still beer, so it’s best to consume it in moderation.

Mocktails

Besides eating, staying hydrated is also just as essential. After all, water is to people as gas is to cars. With that said, many of us like to add some flavor to our drinks, and that’s where beverages like soda and beer kick in. Yes, they may be good choices, but more often than not, they aren’t as healthy as the good ‘ole glass of water. Well, if you want a flavored drink that’s packed with health benefits, may we suggest a mocktail?

As its name suggests, a mocktail is a cocktail minus the alcohol. Plus, it’s fairly easy to make, with some recipes only requiring a few ingredients – and you don’t have to be an experienced bartender to make a good one! Most of the time, it’s composed of a concoction that can include mixed juices, syrups, fruits, teas, and more, so the possibilities are practically endless. With that said, mocktails can help keep us hydrated, provide us with plenty of nutrients, and of course, support our mental and physical well-being.

Ube

Sometimes, we couldn’t help but spend some credit card points on a good snack. One such food most – if not all – of us love is undoubtedly ice cream. Of course, each one has a personal favorite flavor, but there’s one that’s been taking the world by storm recently – ube. In fact, this purple-colored ice cream has already become quite a trend in social media, thanks to its Instagram-worthy look. What many are probably not aware of is ube, a vegetable, isn’t only as tasty as its ice cream counterpart, it’s also full of benefits!

Usually found in Asia, a boiled ube can already be a tasty snack, but it can also be used as an ingredient in Halo-Halo, a Filipino dessert that’s more delicious than it’s given credit for. With its abundance of vitamins, proteins, and carbohydrates, this vegetable can help reduce risks of asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer.
