Will Smith | Django – Django Unchained

As it appears, Will Smith has a record of turning down roles. After he turned down the role of Neo in The Matrix, the actor-musician also rejected Quentin Tarantino’s call for him to play Django in Django Unchained. Instead, Jamie Foxx stepped up and eventually took the role, and he was well-praised for his performance.

Smith’s decision to forego the part was because he felt that he was not being given the primary role in the film. The movie has other powerful actors in it like Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington, and Leonardo Di Caprio, so his hesitation was understandable. It would have been great to see him as Django as it might have given the movie a fresh perspective. On the one hand, being able to say “no” to a job means that Smith has financial stability, which would definitely meet the approval of his financial advisor.
