Like the previously-mentioned actor Christian Bale, Tom Hanks is another star who has become synonymous with a couple of his roles. With that in mind, it’s safe to say many of us feel some degree of unease whenever we think of another actor portraying one of Hanks’ beloved characters.One such example would be the 1994 film Forrest Gump. To this day, Hanks’ role as the movie’s titular lead remains one of the industry’s most iconic.

Before he took the part, however, John Travolta was initially set to portray the character. For reasons unknown, he declined the offer and opted to work on the Quentin Tarantino-directed film Pulp Fiction, also released in 1994. Despite the missed opportunity, the stars aligned for the two actors. Hanks won an Academy Award for Best Actor, while Travolta’s portrayal of Vincent Vega remains one of his greatest.
