Julia Roberts | Viola – Shakespeare In Love
A lot of surprises can happen throughout a movie’s production. One such example worth noting would be the 1998 period drama film Shakespeare in Love, which underwent its fair share of changes in crew and even cast members. With the first draft of the movie’s script realized around the late 1980s, Marc Norman wrote the movie’s script while Ed Zwick took on the directorial job.
Julia Roberts was supposed to play the role of Viola de Lesseps, along with Daniel Day-Lewis as her titular counterpart. Sure, the Pretty Woman star was more than willing to do the project, but after learning Day-Lewis declined to do the role, she left it, too. The film then experienced an overhaul, with John Madden becoming the new director and Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes playing the titular roles. Despite the changes, the movie still won several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Picture.
