Sean Connery | Gandalf – The Lord Of The Rings
The late Sean Connery was the very first actor to portray the fictional secret agent James Bond and starred in seven such movies from 1962 to 1983. Before being given this major role, the actor appeared in minor roles in theater and TV. Connery did not like the attention given to him as James Bond, but he did cherish the work he did with movie magnates, like Sidney Lurnet and Alfred Hitchcock, who offered him projects.
Connery always seriously considered all the offers that come along his way. His lawyers also were very meticulous in reviewing the deal terms, but there was one movie that he had to decline, although the role was perfect and the cinematography extraordinary. It was the role of Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings. The actor revealed that he did not really understand the script. Turning down the part meant Ian McKellen took over, in which the latter did well.
